SAN ANTONIO (KABB/WOAI) - Savannah Guthrie began the Jan. 2 broadcast of NBC'S "Today" show by announcing Hoda Kotb is her new co-anchor.

Kotb and Guthrie celebrated the news with hugs, selfies and several playings of the announcer saying Kotb's name.

Guthrie said it's likely "the most popular decision that NBC News has ever made."

Kotb has been a regular fill-in for the show since Matt Lauer was terminated by the network in November over allegations of sexual misconduct.
