OKALOOSA COUNTY, Fla. (WEAR) - A homeless man was arrested Thursday after police say he sexually molested a young girl at a Florida shelter during Hurricane Michael.
According to the Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office, a witness claimed to have seen a live recording of the suspect inappropriately touching the 6-year-old underneath her clothes on Wednesday afternoon.
John Stapleton, 60, has been charged with lewd and lascivious molestation of a victim under the age of 12.
Police said in a press release that Stapleton admitted to touching the child at the Davidson Middle School hurricane shelter, but "not in a lewd manner."
According to court documents filed in Okaloosa County, the suspect claims the victim told him his touching "felt good."
Hurricane Michael, a Category 4 storm, pummeled the Gulf Coast on Wednesday, causing roughly $8 billion in insured losses.
